Storytellers and illustrators sometimes explore the torture and execution of men on a cross. This is an especially controversial subject because of the religious significance ascribed to the Roman crucifixion of Jesus Christ a couple of thousand years ago. I was born and raised into the Roman Catholic faith, yet I choose not to shy away from depicting crucifixions.

You will notice in the gallery on this page that I frequently insert cowboys into my illustrations of cross men. And yes, I do realize that choosing to depict a cowboy on a cross is an anachronism. When I do these kind of illustrations, I am aiming for emotional impact, not historical accuracy.
